The new version of the WordPress app for iOS is out! For those of you who have used the WordPress app before, you know it makes blogging on the go from your iPhone or iPad easier. The main aim of this newest version, 3.6, was to make the user experience better for those who are new to the app or WordPress in general. The new version still isn’t everything we would like the app to be, but it does make posting to ZippyKid from your iPhone even easier than previous versions.
How to Use the WordPress App
Open the app to this:
Sign In (Previous Users):
If you’ve used WordPress before, click the “Sign In” button and simply fill out your username, password, and site address. It looks like this:
Create an Account (New Users):
Click “Create Account” when you open the WordPress app and fill out your email address and a username and password you would like to use. Looks like this:
Add a New Site (New Users):
If you just created an account, you will be taken to the page to add a new site. Come up with a site title and enter your blog URL and language of choice:
Add a New Site (Previous Users):
Click on “Settings” on the bottom-right of the sidebar:
Next, click “Add a Blog”
Then click on “Create WordPress.com Blog”
Finally, enter in your email, username, password, and desired blog URL and language.
If your site is self-hosted you’ll want to install Jetpack. You can do this from the WordPress plugins menu by searching for “JetPack” and clicking install.
Make a Post:
First, click on “Posts” in the sidebar. Next, simply click the “+” button in the top-right corner to add a post.
Add picture or video:
Once you’ve started a new post, click on the bottom-right button to add or take a picture. The button next to that allows you to add or take a video.
Unfortunately, pictures and videos show up as HTML code:
Realize there’s an error in a published post? To edit, click on “Posts” in the sidebar, choose the post you want to edit, click on the post’s text to make your changes, and press “Update” when done.
Overall Impressions of the WordPress App
The app is a good way to publish your thoughts on the go, and improvements have been made since the last version. For example, if you love emoticons you will be thrilled to discover they display correctly now :). Also, the app is translated to more languages (Danish, Korean, or Russian anyone?) and we haven’t tested it but the app boasts solving a previous problem with Tumblr imported blogs. However, we’re hoping future versions solve the frustration of pictures and videos showing up as HTML.
In short, be on the lookout for future versions but download the app now. We can’t wait to see what you post with it!
