As a WordPress agency owner or developer, your workflow is often at the mercy of sudden client issues. In our recent WP Minute livestream, Matt Medeiros sat down with Phill Clapham, Senior Technical Account Manager at Pressable, to explore a major shift in how we handle site management: **Pressable MCP (Model Context Protocol).**

If you missed the live broadcast, we watched Phill put Pressable MCP to the test across multiple AI tools, demonstrating how tasks that used to swallow up a whole morning can now be handled in minutes.

Here is a full breakdown of what went down, along with key insights from Phill on why this integration is an absolute game-changer.

## **What is MCP? (The “USB-C” Analogy)**

To set the stage, Phill offered a perfect analogy for anyone wondering what Model Context Protocol actually is and why it matters.

*“Do you remember how cell phones were before they universalized USB-C as the charger? Back in those days, every phone came with its own charger, and essentially no charger could talk to any other phone except for the one it came with. When AI first started to explode, it had that same problem… MCP, which stands for Model Context Protocol, is essentially the USB-C of AI. It is a universal protocol that allows really any toolset to have a universal way to talk to AI, and AI to talk to that toolset.”*

For WordPress specifically, this is massive. As Phill pointed out, WordPress has over 20 years of history and backwards compatibility in its API. Pressable MCP acts as a discoverability layer, essentially teaching the AI exactly *when* and *how* to use the right hosting tools securely.

## **Live Demo: Solving the “Monday at 8:00 AM” Problem**

Instead of giving a generic demonstration, Phill walked through a high-pressure scenario that every agency owner knows too well: walking into the office on Monday morning, you haven’t had your coffee yet, and you have urgent tickets from three separate clients reporting weekend issues.

Ordinarily, you’d have to log into your dashboard, drill into three separate sites, pull logs manually, and begin playing detective. Instead, Phill fed a single prompt into **Claude Desktop** and **ChatGPT** simultaneously to show the versatility of the protocol.

### **1. Multi-Site Triage in Parallel**

Using Pressable MCP, the AI scanned across three different client sites (*Meridian Consulting, Harbor Realty,* and *Coastal Coffee Co.*) in parallel. It automatically pulled activity logs, PHP errors, and Nginx access metrics from the weekend.

### **2. Sifting the Noise from the Real Incidents**

Within a few minutes, the AI graded the issues by severity:

- It identified that *Meridian Consulting* was just experiencing normal weekend noise.
- It flagged that *Coastal Coffee Co.* had a critical issue: a major version jump of the **WooCommerce Stripe Gateway** plugin had triggered a cascade of fatal errors and broken checkout endpoints during a specific window on Sunday.

### **3. Finding the Clean Backup**

The AI kept the context of the conversation to look for solutions in addition to summarizing the errors. It checked the server history, verified that a database backup had been safely created right before the plugin update, and presented clear restoration options.

## **The Augmentation Thesis: “More Judgment, Less Execution”**

One of the most insightful parts of the conversation centered around how developers should view AI. Matt noted that some people are jumping to static sites or trying to “vibe-code” entire apps from scratch, only to realize later they still need core elements like user management and security – things WordPress already handles perfectly out of the box.

Phill agreed, sharing his **Augmentation Thesis**:

*“AI is going to allow the professionals in the field to work more efficiently and to better harness their own creativity, not have it replaced. We need to focus our attention on: How can AI make me more creative? How can it make me a little bit more efficient at the parts of my job that keep me from the parts I truly excel at? How can it automate the drudge work?”*

By letting Pressable MCP handle the manual procedure of digging through server data, an agency owner’s job shifts from tedious execution to high-level oversight. As Phill put it, **“My work is less execution, and more judgment around that execution.”**

### **Pressable MCP: Your Questions Answered**

We had some great participation from the live crowd and a deep dive into how this fits into daily agency workflows. Here are the key technical questions tackled during the stream:

### **Q: How do we audit the work that’s done through the MCP server to make sure we know what changed over time?**

**Phill:** Every action performed through MCP is tracked in your Pressable Activity Logs with a distinct MCP source tag, so you can always tell whether a change was made through the dashboard, the API, or one of your AI tools.

### **Q: Does Pressable MCP replace traditional tools like the WordPress REST API or WP-CLI?**

**Phill:** Not at all. In fact, most MCP servers are actually building *on top* of existing APIs, so the REST API isn’t going anywhere. Think of MCP as a discoverability layer—it teaches the AI when and how to use those underlying tools properly. If you are doing highly complex, custom database queries, you’re still going to want to SSH in and use WP-CLI directly. But for 60% of the day-to-day management stuff, MCP is just a much faster, conversational way to execute it.

### **Q: Can I use this on the go, or do I need to be chained to a heavy developer desktop setup?**

**Phill:** You can absolutely use it on the go. Because tools like Claude have great remote control and mobile capabilities, I regularly run site audits, check server latency, and look into complex hosting issues right from my phone while I’m out grabbing lunch. It completely frees you from needing your laptop flipped open the second a customer calls with a weekend emergency.

## **Want Your Mornings Back?**

Pressable MCP is included with all Pressable hosting plans at no extra charge. You don’t need to be tied to a heavy desktop setup to use it, either – Phill notes that he regularly uses Claude’s remote capabilities to run site audits and check complex issues right from his phone while out at lunch.

### **Get Started in Less Than 2 Minutes:**

1. Log into your **My.Pressable.com** account.
2. Navigate to **Tools** in the sidebar.
3. Click on **Pressable MCP** to generate your API keys or connect via OAuth.
