Domain Setup Wizard

Pointing a domain to your Pressable site doesn’t need to be hard. Logging into your registrar and setting Nameservers or adding A Records can be a daunting task for those who don’t regularly do those things. We understand, and that’s why we also have an easier option to help you point your domain to your Pressable site: our Domain Setup Wizard!

Our Domain Setup Wizard allows you to connect your domain to your Pressable site directly through the My.Pressable.com Dashboard, automatically detecting the DNS provider and adding the records needed.

Using the Domain Setup Wizard

Important: The Domain Setup Wizard will only work if your DNS provider is listed in the Automatic DNS configuration support section here: https://developers.entri.com/provider-list#automatic-dns-configuration-support

When adding a domain for an individual site, navigate to the Domains -> Add Domains section and click on the DNS Wizard tab option:

How to access the DNS Management Wizard through the My.Pressable.com Dashboard.

Enter the domain name you want to connect to the site, then click the Connect to Registrar button (shown above). Our system will then check to see if your domain can be connected to your site via the Domain Setup Wizard. Please see the Domain Setup Wizard Cannot Be Used section below if the connection will not work.

If the Domain Setup Wizard can be used, the next step will be shown in a popup like the following:

Step two of the Domain Management Wizard domain connection process: Agreeing to terms.

Click Continue, then the Wizard will analyze your domain and ask you to login to your account with the domain registrar. Here’s an example of a domain registered with Namecheap.com:

Step three of the Domain Management Wizard domain connection process: Registrar login.

If you need to change the registrar from what is auto-detected, you can do so by clicking on the gear icon in the bottom left corner of the popup.

In this step, there are three options:

  • Log in: Enter the Username and Password for the account login that your domain is associated with. Please make sure you enter the actual Username for your account and not the email address associated with it. You may also be sent a verification code to the email associated with your account. You’ll need to enter that as well to proceed with setup.
  • Forward login to someone else: This option will provide you with a link to send to whoever you’d like to set this up on your behalf. The link, when clicked, will allow login and setup of the domain connection with Pressable.
  • See what records will be added: This will show the four A Records that will be added to the domain name to point it to the Pressable site.

After successful login, it will show an Authenticating… message on the popup, like the image below:

Authentication progress bar for domain connection to Pressable sites.

This can take some time, as the Domain Connection Wizard needs to log in to your account and add the correct records to point the domain to your Pressable site. You can follow the progress bar, as it will turn more dark blue as the process progresses. Sometimes this authentication process can take as many as 2-5 minutes, but if it takes longer than that something is wrong and you’ll want to cancel and restart the process.

Once the login and authentication process is complete, you’ll see within the popup window a message notification regarding a list of existing records for the domain and asking for confirmation to update the domain to the new records needed for the Pressable site. It will look something like this:

Record detection notice and authorization to update records for Domain Setup Wizard.

Click the Okay, continue button to have the domain’s records updated to point to the Pressable site. If you do NOT want the records to be updated, you can click the Or cancel option shown in the example above.

If you click Okay, continue, then you’ll see a message showing the update process (which can take around 1 minute to complete) and once that’s done you’ll see a message stating that the domain is now configured, like this:

Domain's records have been successfully updated with the Domain Setup Wizard.

Click Done and you’ll be routed back to the Domains -> Manage Domains section of the site in the My.Pressable.com Dashboard to verify the domain was added properly:

If successful, domain's www and non-www should show connected and "Healthy" upon completing the domain connection with the Domain Setup Wizard.

If you don’t see a Healthy (green) status for each domain instance (www and non-www), try refreshing the page and checking again (Click here for more information on domain health statuses).

At this step, you can also select which domain instance (www or non-www) you’d like to set as the primary domain by clicking the ★ button next to the domain that you would like to be the primary. In the example image above, https://pressabletest.com will be the primary domain and https://www.pressabletest.com will redirect to https://pressabletest.com.

Important: Once the Domain Setup Wizard has finished connecting the domain to the site, please visit the site to ensure everything is connected and working properly.

Domain Setup Wizard Cannot Be Used

If your DNS Provider is not listed in the Automatic DNS configuration support section here: https://developers.entri.com/provider-list#automatic-dns-configuration-support, the Domain Setup Wizard cannot be used.

If Domain Setup Wizard cannot be used with your DNS Provider, it will display the following Warning: Domain name must be added using the Manual DNS option message:

Warning displayed when DNS Management Wizard cannot be used.

In those cases, the manual domain connection process must be used.

Adding Additional DNS Records

If you used the Domain Setup Wizard to connect your domain to your Pressable site, you will need to login to your account with the domain registrar to update other records (ex: MX, TXT, etc).

Yoast Indexables

If Yoast (Yoast SEO or Yoast SEO Premium plugins) is used on a website and a domain is added or changed (new site, cloned site, etc) without taking steps afterward, it can result in the staging domain or previous domain showing in search results. Please follow the information here to ensure the proper domain is reflected within search results.
